So this last week a Cirque du Soleil show was in my town. It really prompted an annoying question among some of the people I know who went. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard “Was the person who did -insert act here- a boy or a girl?” This really pissed me off. Why does that even matter? I understand asking once and moving on. I get that most people like to have people fit into a label they understand and, at least among my friends, don’t mean it to be rude. But every time I heard someone say it today they made a huge deal out of it. People were literally arguing about this stuff. Really? It doesn’t matter. I don’t think you plan on asking any of the Cirque performers on a date any time soon, so their gender and sex are none of your business. Just enjoy the fucking show. I’m sorry that not everyone in the world meets your expectations to physically fit as male or female. Personally, I find androgyny beautiful. It is important to use preferred gender pronouns, but if you don’t know someone like in this situation you really don’t need to make a big deal over their gender. Why do people worry so much about finding a gender label for everyone? This is something I’ve notice so much in college and today was just the last straw. Ugh.
Sorry. I needed to rant. I can’t even put all of my thoughts on this into a post.
